My Garden

I have a love-hate relationship with gardening. My husband and I bought our current home 23 years ago because it had a large yard with lots of lawn, flower beds and mature trees. Believing I had inherited my mother's love of gardening, I was confident I could tackle the task and make this garden a more beautiful place.

I'd say it took me about three years to realize i didn't have the landscaping knack. I could make things grow, but the overall effect somehow wasn't pleasing.

I still do a bit of gardening, but no longer have the strength nor the balance to tackle big jobs, so I rely on gardeners. And I spend far too much time writing books to be a full-time gardener!

Here are a few pics of my "estate".

Yes, I have a palm tree in my Canadian garden!

It's hard to make put, but the third picture features my fig tree. It's usually prolific but is having an off year.
